Foursquare Badge List

Complete and updated on: 2/14/10

If you’re like me and love collecting achievements, then foursquare will be no exception. You will not be able to collect them all as many of the badges are geo-specific and event oriented. However, most of the Active Badges can be achieved in a short amount of time.

As with any social media experiment, earn awards often and early!

Please take a moment to add me on foursquare.

FYI – The Zoetrope badge can be achieved by just checking in to a movie theatre 10 times — it doesn't have to be 10 different theatres.

    • Foo February 21, 2010 at 10:44 am #

Thanks! I've corrected the list accordingly.

  2. tonyfelice February 21, 2010 at 11:31 am #

Nice – I like the format! FWIW, the internet week "boat" was unlocked by checking into a party at The Hotel on Rivington, but the PG version of the badge is unlocked at any venue tagged 'boat'.

I would categorize the "Trainspotter" badge as corporate, as it was one of the first badges paid for by a mainstream sponsor. There are also a few more sponsored badges available currently.

    • Foo February 21, 2010 at 12:32 pm #

Thank you for the suggestions. I have updated the list to reflect the changes.

As for being a "The Complete Foursquare List": Foursquare will constantly be adding badges. This is the reason I placed the date stamp of 'last updated' on top. The Wikipedia entry has been deleted, but is heavily debated and may merging into the main article. If it's not restored, I'll link to your instead.

  3. Aaron February 23, 2010 at 1:30 pm #

i've seen some others but great list so far

  4. Pete February 26, 2010 at 1:54 pm #

Great list! Great resource now that the Wikipedia article has been deleted.

Very thorough…the only badge I have that you seem to be missing is the "Waze Road Warrior."

Also, I think it would be helpful if you split up the city-specific badges into their own categories (it seems New York, San Fran and Austin are the main cities with their own badges).

  5. Andy February 27, 2010 at 11:47 pm #

Road Warrior is 3 check-ins from the Waze App

  6. Joyce March 1, 2010 at 4:28 pm #

Anyone know if the NYTimes Olympic badge is still available?

  7. Bobby March 8, 2010 at 9:15 am #

I've sent out 6 different birthday shoutouts – but received nothing. Any ideas?

  8. basibanget March 10, 2010 at 9:14 pm #

"Road Warrior" will be unlocked if you check in using Waze app

  9. Gigi Huynh March 16, 2010 at 6:50 pm #

Wow. Thanks so much for the blog. I've been looking for this all around the web. I think foursquare should show off the badges on the application of the phone. I can't seem to see on my blackberry what I have as badges. I don't know how you got the infos but ''BRAVO''.

  10. Don Park March 17, 2010 at 3:17 pm #

    "Global Ignite Week" badge

    Barista

Congrats – you've checked in at 5 different Starbucks!

  12. Angela March 24, 2010 at 3:11 pm #

    Don’t forget the Chicago badges:

    Chicago Blues
    Celery Salt
On Location (5 movie experiences: High Fidelity, Ferris Bueller, Chick Flicks, Dark Knight, Blues Brothers)

  13. iamc March 30, 2010 at 7:16 am #

I think several of these are no longer achievable. Love this chart, but would like to know which ones are "discontinued".

Does the birthday shout out need to be with a foursquare username to count?

  14. David H. April 1, 2010 at 5:13 pm #

Great list! The description for the Top Chef badge (related to the locked-down "bravo" tag at tagged restaurants) is incorrect and is written as a duplicate of the Foodie badge (related to the locked-down "zagat-rated" tag). The "Top Chef" badge states: You wear the term "foodie" as a badge of honor, and now have BRAVO's Top Chef Badge to prove it. (NOTE: It can take going to more than one tagged location to get the Top Chef badge.)

  15. Zak April 4, 2010 at 3:21 am #

Finally! someone posted a list of the foursquare badges. I have been looking for this. any idea if they will be adding more?

  16. Dan April 4, 2010 at 10:08 pm #

If you've ever been in Detroit, you probably already know that Coney Island hot dogs are the best.

  17. Olof April 11, 2010 at 3:51 am #

There's a Last Degree badge for checking in at the north pole: http://foursquare.com/user/parkerliautaud/badges/…

  18. Cherise April 16, 2010 at 1:53 pm #

Hey! Got a new one today. It's called the #4sqDay 2010 Badge. All I had to do was check in somewhere and in the comment section type #4sqDay. You'll get the badge today because it is April 16th (4/16).

  19. Jason April 17, 2010 at 4:37 am #

They should add a badge that is called: Bowl Dog! Where if you checked into 10 Spots tha have a bowling alley tag!

  20. David H. April 18, 2010 at 4:54 am #

"Where 2010" badge = Welcome to Where 2010, a geo-nerd's playground! Don't forget to wish Brady Forrest (the conference organizer!) a happy birthday on Wednesday 3/31!

  21. ANkh April 18, 2010 at 11:28 pm #

Are you going to add the Foursquare Day badge?

I think you had to mention Foursquare Day in your comment to get it.

  22. Gail April 20, 2010 at 1:11 pm #

Please note the Top Chef badge you have listed is incorrect. (You have the Zagat badge info for it). It should read: "You wear the term “foodie” as a badge of honor, and now have BRAVO’s Top Chef Badge to prove it"

  23. Mark April 21, 2010 at 11:03 am #

Lawrence Olivier award- ten check INS at a live theatre location/ Broadway

  24. Anonymous April 22, 2010 at 9:38 pm #

You’re missing “Hair Aware”, “Lookin’ For Love”, Celery Salt, Chicago Blues, Show Hopper, Elite Shopper, etc. (???) More from corporate maybe? I haven’t the faintest clues.

  25. Sally April 27, 2010 at 8:24 am #

Does anyone know why most Zagat rated restaurants don't qualify for the "Foodie" or "Top Chef" badge? I'm a food critic in NYC and I go to plenty of Zagat rated restaurants, but still have not acquired these badges!?

  26. sam April 30, 2010 at 3:31 am #

    wsj.com just added 3 badges http://online.wsj.com/public/page/foursquare.html…

    Urban Adventurer

  28. Claude May 9, 2010 at 1:52 pm #

You can also get a Road Warrior by using the Waze app on the iPhone.

  29. MohawkTodd May 11, 2010 at 9:37 am #

Great job, thanks for the list!

  30. Priska May 13, 2010 at 11:59 pm #

  31. Laura May 14, 2010 at 8:24 am #

This is great! Can you tell me — how do you go about submitting a badge to foursquare — do you have to have a partnership? What's the process for proposing one?

  32. Andy May 18, 2010 at 4:48 am #

it seems that you are missing a lot of badges. You may want to check out this other up to date list:

or even this list of suggested badges

I will be updating this list soon, hopefully with a more concise layout.

  33. Etienne May 27, 2010 at 6:41 am #

    New badge: Historian

I haven't unlocked it so I don't know how, but it's on my list in IE. I followed the History Channel so I'm sure it related.

    Thanks for the list!

  34. mega June 2, 2010 at 2:55 am #

too litle badges for us in indonesia :(

  35. Tony-Wan Kenobi June 9, 2010 at 2:13 pm #

The History Channel now has a badge. To obtain it, you have to be friends with them on foursquare first…then check-in to a location of their choosing. I live in Seattle, and I got mine at The Seattle Asian Art Museum.

  36. Tony-Wan Kenobi June 9, 2010 at 2:15 pm #

@ Bobby (March 8th) Your final (5th) birthday shout needs to be accompanied with a check-in.

  37. Robert Latchford July 26, 2010 at 2:09 am #

Have updated some new ones on this site as well as latest news on what foursquare are up to.

  15. Foursquare Strategy for your Venue – Loyalty Program Ideas — Nightlife Marketing Resource - April 19, 2010

[...] For those who don’t know, Foursquare is a mobile application that lets you track where you are and “check in” when you go somewhere. You can add a status and keep track of your friends, like on Facebook and Twitter. But, the application is also a game. You get points for participating in various activities, such as checking in at a location for the first time, traveling a certain distance between check-ins, or checking in often at the same location over time. The “mayor” of a location is the one with the most check-ins there. Additionally, you can earn “badges,” which reward combinations of behaviors . For instance, you get the “Bender” badge if you check in to bars four nights in a row. If you check in at three karaoke lounges, you get the “Don’t Stop Believin’” badge (see full list of badges). We were watching them closely, as they were super-organized from the beginning. As a result of grassroot efforts, 16th April was declared “Foursquare day”. Since Czech people always try to trick and outsmart the others, #prague4sqday was called for 15th April, putting us in the lead. Unsure about number of 4sq users, the meet-up organizers hoped at least 50 users would come, earning this way the “swarm badge” (wondering how many badges are there? I like this list). [...]
